During the third week in June 2011, Healing Pathways-Cancer Resource Center hosted a Tri-Pathlon of three events benefitting the work at the center. First, the Celebrity Bartenders event Thursday June 23rd at Stone Eagle, offered an evening of great fun, with tips to the celebrities donated to sustain new programming at Healing Pathways. This fun event was beautifully organized by Linda King, Marie Coletti and Maria Rotello. It was a packed house that night and great fun for all who attended. Special thanks to the staff of Stone Eagle, and our celebrity bartenders; you helped make it a night to remember. Then on Friday June 24th, the annual Go-Nuts Golf Tournament sponsored by Maverick Media brought 90 golfers scrambling for an enjoyable day of Golf, with proceeds benefitting Healing Pathways and special focus on Men’s Testicular Cancer. Paul Arco and Shelley Klein put together a well run event with spectacular silent auction items. Thank you to all volunteers who made these events fun and meaningful.
Finally, if you attended the Men’s Bow Tie March on Saturday June 25th , you experienced a third outstanding event. Over two hundred people joined together under blue skies at the Keeling-Puri Peace Plaza to bring focus and empathy to the reality of men’s cancer. This inaugural event, produced by the Healing Pathways Board of Directors and scores of volunteers, had everything to make a memorable day. Hammy the Ice Hog got everyone moving to the grandstand where the Rockford Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol and the United States Air Force Auxiliary presented the colors. Eric Wilson from WREX TV welcomed the crowd and remained our EMCEE for the entire event. The Rockford Barber Shoppers sang the National Anthem followed by co-chairs Paul Arco and Joe Arco who spoke to us about the need for supporting all men who are engaged in the fight against cancer and to bring awareness to men’s health, including screening tests and early detection. The Clan MacAlpine Bagpipers rallied the troops and led the marchers in their 1&1/2 mile walk for Men’s Cancer Awareness.
We want to thank all of the volunteers who make the work at Healing Pathways possible, as well as the team of volunteers making this day a reality. Maria Rotello was integral in keeping all three events organized and on course as well as working tirelessly at each venue. Julie Alsup showed her dedication and skill as our Project Manager for the Men’s Bow Tie March. Healing Pathways Board of Directors members Karen Moore, Bruce Kincaid, Paul Arco, Joe Arco, and Karen Jasper were involved in organizing and producing the event. Special thanks to Paul Logli, our honorary chair, who brought his wonderful words of compassion in the telling of his own cancer journey. Our co-chairs Joe Arco and Paul Arco saw early on the need for an event honoring men’s fight against cancer and sounded the call for us all to follow. Our sponsors answered that call and we would like to name and thank each one.
